Wait on the Lord and be of good courage, and He Shall strengthen thine heart†wait, I say on the Lord.
-Psalm 27:14
Located in the Vine City Community. God found Greater Bethany Baptist Church in June of 1915 under the organizational leadership of Reverend J.R. Collier. The Church was organized from a prayer band that met at the home of a few church members. At that time, the church was known as The Little Woodward Baptist Church, which was located on Spencer Street.
In 1940, a new church was built on Thurmond Street which is our present location. Reverend I.S. Mack served as pastor of the church. From 1915 several ministers served at Greater Bethany. Each played an important role in the spiritual and physical development of Greater Bethany.
Since 1974, Rev. Dr. Curtis L. Lester has served as our pastor and Leader. In recent years, the church outreach program has developed into various community programs for the sick, shut-in, homebound, homeless, prisoners, hospitalized, un-churched, and for anyone seeking inspiration from God’s Word.
We thank God for his continuous blessing and We give Him all the praise and glory. AMEN!
